10 Things to know before you buy.
Have you ever purchased a plant and within a months’ time your plant has gone from healthy and happy to sad and droopy? If you answered well yes that’s totally the case. Well, you aren’t alone.
Many of us are unaware of what to look for when purchasing a plant. And a lot of first time plant buyers quickly fail because of the lack of knowledge. And it simply boils down to a few simple ground rules.
Try not to purchase a plant that’s showing signs of brown spots or signs of discoloration. A healthy plant is the best option.
Check the plant for insects. This is a must! You don’t want to bring home insects especially if you have other plants at home that can become infested and ruin your beauties.
Is the nursery in tip top shape. Meaning are the plants as a whole in great shape if so happy day buy away. Otherwise shop around town for a better nursery.
Do you have a great spot at home to accumulate your new baby. Make sure your home or greenhouse has the necessary lighting to ensure positive growth. And if you really aren’t sure what lighting to have ask a nursery employee. No question is a dumb one I assure you. Remember that most plants will need time to adjust to their new environment and will go through a state of shock so wait a bit if you are wanting to repot.
Stay away from online plant shops. Yes, it’s crazy fun purchasing plants online but in my experience of buying online you really never get what you pay for. And you don’t know what kind of environment that plant was in.
Pick the healthiest plant out of the lot. This sounds like a no brainer but you have a better time caring for your plant than one that might be on its way out.
Check for weeds. A plant with weeds has lost its nutrients and is in need of repotting.
Make sure the plant is safe. If you have pets or children you want a plant that is safe and won’t harm any living thing. So, ensure a little research before purchasing.
Avoid large plants in small pots or small plants in large pots.
Ensure time. Will you ultimately have enough time to spend on your plant. Plants need daily care, and new plant babies need lots of love and care. So, keep that in mind.
